Boys Soccer Struggles with Numbers

The Culver varsity boys soccer team has always struggled to have a good amount of players. The lack of interest in the sport has led to a slow decline of players over the years. The 21-22 season is no different from the previous years.

“When coaching any small team, probably one of the biggest struggles is not having the amount of students that are interested in playing,” said head coach Adam Llovet. 

The absence of a call-out and a coach attributed to them originally starting out with 9 players at the first game mark. Due to the small number of players, there is a lack of motivation. 

“For us this year it’s been just struggling with having guys coming out and being willing to play,” said Coach Llovet.

But there is still a sense of motivation, even when there is an insufficient number of players. 

Sophomore Landon Stevens, goalie on the soccer team, commented, “I think there is a sense of camaraderie, just wanting to help out your fellow teammate, and probably a general sense to just want to win.”

Even though the team has just enough players to make a team, the coaches and the teammates keep their heads high. They have grown a lot this year through all of their struggles. 

“The biggest growth we’ve seen right now has not been on the field, but has been off the field,” said Coach Llovet.
