Another Family

By: Willow Harrington

A team is much like a family, both are built up with trust and bonding. With families you get ups and downs, and just like a family at Thanksgiving, a team is full of opinions.  Each person involved cannot see everything at one time, it takes communication to help everyone get on the same page.

Freshman  Livi Overmyer along with senior Lizzie Pugh, who has been with the team longer than any of the other girls, sees things in a positive light.

“I see the team as something that I can call family,” said Livi.

“I think everyone on the team gets along very well,” said Lizzie. “I think the more we play together the better we’ll be, but that just comes with time. This is our first year playing together for most of us.”

Each person contributes so much to a family and team. Nobody can act perfectly, there is always room for mistakes and arguments.

“I think our coaches do a good job preparing us for games,” said junior Maisy McCuen. “But I think they could work together better.”

“ I think our coaches do a good job at talking to the team about what we need to work on. They are straightforward and it helps us understand what needs to be done,” said Lizzie. “The coaches I think do struggle a little bit with trying to motivate us, but some of that is on the players too.”

As a collective, the coaches see what the team needs to work on and what the team is good at. The team knows working together, they can get stronger.

“We have much room to grow, but I believe that is something we can do together,” said Livi. “I think our biggest weakness is probably coming up with the results we get in practice in a game. We do very well in practice, but when it comes to games we don’t show it.”

Overall, the girls have had a great season together, but much like a family they still have room to grow together.

“This season has by far been my favorite season since being in high school. We may not have a great record but we are a much better team,” said Lizzie. “Everyone has a great attitude and they make it fun to be a part of the team. The overall feel of the season is great.”
