Culver Students selected for IMEA Honor Concert Band

By: Collin Hunnicutt

Culver Community is pleased to announce that two students, junior Neomiah Haschel and freshman Hayden Lute, have been selected to the Indiana Music Education Association Honor Concert Band. Haschel will perform later this winter in Fort Wayne with the band, and Lute was selected as an alternate. This prestigious honor is a way to award these students for their hard work and talent.

“The Honor Concert Band is an honors ensemble that performs annually at the IMEA Professional Development Conference. It is comprised of high school students selected from a pool of nominations sent in by IMEA Member Band Directors. This prestigious performing ensemble works with an esteemed guest clinician from around the country and gives students an opportunity to play with other high-caliber students throughout the state,” stated the article Honor Concert Band by imeamusic.org.

“It felt pretty good when he told me I got picked because generally it’s not for freshmen but for kids that are more experienced,” said Lute.

The Honor Concert Band is a wonderful way for the students to gain experience and learn more about something they are both highly talented and passionate about. The students will get the chance to play with other students who are just as passionate as they are. They will get the chance to be a part of a large scale band led by a highly talented clinician.

“IMEA Honor Band gives you a chance to play with people you might not even think to play with, and it gives you a chance to work on your site reading, and learn things you might not have had the chance to learn at your own school,” stated Haschel.

“The philosophy of the IMEA Honor Band is a little different from a typical “auditioned” all-state group. We are interested in getting as many schools represented as possible while still maintaining the highest quality of personnel. We do not guarantee we will take one student from each school but will attempt to get as many schools represented as possible,” said the article Honor Concert Band from imeamusic.org.

Junior Neomiah Haschel and freshman Hayden Lute have shown that hard work pays off. The IMEA Honor Concert Band represents the most talented band members in Indiana.

Performing with such a talented group can be exciting. “The conductor last year was from out of state and conducted for a college. The talent that he had was really exciting, and many of the drummers were more marching based. However, we were able to come together for orchestra and that was exciting,” reflected Haschel.

Congratulations to these students for their accomplishment of the acceptance to the IMEA Honor Concert Band.
