Cooking with Kaity and Chloee: Cake Pops

By: Kaity Stacy and Chloee Danti

March is filled with rain and gloom, so Kaity and Chloee wanted to bring some cheer and decided to make a sweet treat that is easy to whip up and store for later.

The duo tried a recipe for cake pops. Well, they were supposed to be cake pops, but there were no cake pop sticks so they pivoted and settled on cake balls. Cake balls require less work, but taste just as good, and they allow you to spend more time with the people you are treating.

Kaity and Chloee chose birthday cake for the flavor, but the recipe allows for any kind of cake. The cooks do not recommend using birthday cake for your cake balls if you care about looks. The inside of their cake balls turned a bluish green because the sprinkle colors mixed together.

These cake balls were covered in white chocolate, but aspiring bakers should let their imagination run wild with whatever flavor or color of chocolate they’d like. The girls finished their batch with a red sprinkle garnish.

Of course, Kaity and Chloee can not trust their own biased selves to judge the cake balls, so they employed four taste testers to give them an honest opinion.

First, on their list, was senior Ian Brown. Ian gave the cake balls a taste, and Kaity and Chloee were optimistic. He ranked the cake balls a 5/10. Kaity and Chloee were shocked. They walked away with disappointment as Ian gave away the rest of his cake ball to senior Emiliano Ortiz. Then Emiliano yelled out, “This is fire.” Emiliano’s response gave them the courage to seek out their next taste tester.

Junior Shelby Olivarez gave the cake balls a taste and rated them 10/10.

Next on the roster, was sophomore Logan Caudill. Kaity and Chloee caught him off guard in the hallway. He gave the cake ball a try and could not wait until he finished his bite to yell out, “That is gas.” When Kaity and Chloee asked for a rating, he gave it a 10/10.

This recipe was on the way to get the best ratings for the column. The last taste tester was freshman Ivon Torres-Escobar, who wrapped up the good reviews with a 9/10.

The cake balls were a success with an average rating of 8.5/10. The score was not as high as Kaity and Chloee would have liked, but they still felt like this recipe was a success. Kaity and Chloee hope you try out these cake balls for yourself and perhaps share them with someone you love.
