A Farwell to Champions

By: Ashton Macedonio

The senior class of 2023 will be leaving as 3-time Sports Spectacular and 2-time Fall Bonanza champions. But their high school victories are just a glimpse into the athletic talent in this grade which showed early when, as 8th graders, they became the only class to win Fall Bonanza as middle schoolers. And their Sports Spectacular victory in 2023 made them the first class to ever win the competition 3 years consecutively.

Senior year can be a time when students are focused on their own individual goals and aspirations. A senior class coming together to achieve success requires teamwork and cooperation. Students use previous skills to work together, support one another, and celebrate each other’s successes. This sense of community and teamwork can be incredibly valuable as students prepare to enter a world that often values individual achievement over collaboration.

And with their wins, the class of 2023 set a positive example for future classes. Seeing a class achieve such success, sets a positive example for future classes to follow. Younger students see what is possible when a group of students comes together and works hard towards a common goal. This can inspire them to strive for excellence in their own pursuits, but it can also create a culture of success and achievement within the school, where each class is motivated to build on the accomplishments of the class that came before them.

“Hearing about the class of 2023 winning Fall Bonanza as 8th graders helped inspire our class to believe we can win Fall Bonanza or Sports Spectacular,” said freshman Jack Carroll

These victories created memories that will last a lifetime for the Class of 2023.

“With this being my first year at Culver, I didn’t realize the importance of Fall Bonanza and Sports Spectacular. But I think for anyone who’s new here you quickly realize the importance of both events. As a grade, we all wanted to go out on a high with it being our senior year, anything less than winning would have been a failure. So being able to achieve our goals was something very special, and I’m grateful for being able to be a part of it,” said senior Kennedy Jackson.

Because the class of 2023 was so good at coming together, they were able to make history. It created a sense of pride, accomplishment, and fostered a sense of community and teamwork, set a positive example for future classes, and created memories that will last a lifetime. As the seniors prepare to leave high school and embark on new journeys, these experiences provided them with the skills, confidence, and connections they will use in whatever path they take next.
