2023-2024 Soccer Sectional Draw

By: Shawn Green

As the sectional draw has ended, the boys and girls soccer teams faced many challenges. The girls soccer team had a successful season and won 13 out of 17 games, and the boys won 1 game through the season. The sectional draw against Argos for both teams caused some frustration due to the harsh competition. At the sectional girls game, the CCMHS played Argos and lost.

“It was exciting to play a team that we haven’t played since 2021,” said junior Kassidy Banks.

As the team went into sectionals, they had high hopes and expectations for the team. The team was excited to finally go against Argos after not playing them since 2021 due to Argos’s coach not playing their varsity team against ours.

“I knew our team held a high chance and we had all the confidence in the world,’’ said junior Madlin Hamiltion

Culver Community  also knew Argos lost key players to graduation, so the team knew they had an advantage and tried to take it.

“ We knew it would be a good fight since they had lost most of their good players due to them graduating,” said junior Kassidy Banks.

The boys soccer team didn’t go into sectionals with as strong of a lead as the girls, only having one win in the season. And, like the girls, they were eliminated in the first round of sectionals against Argos.

The boys’ team was small and relatively new. Most of the team consisted of freshmen and sophomores.

“A very large portion of our team had very little experience with high school varsity soccer,” said senior Landon Stevens.

Although the boys soccer team lost, the boys walked on the field with confidence and gave their best effort.

“Our team had a lot of heart, so all I was hoping for was that we gave it everything we had and finished the season off with a bang,” said senior Landon Stevens.
