Football Optimistic ‘Til the End

By: Hazel Tomblin

The Culver Community football team has had a difficult season this year. Their current win-loss score is 0-8. Though this score doesn’t look good, the team is still looking to turn their season around in the upcoming sectionals.

“I do believe that we can turn around our performance by sectionals because we will hopefully be playing our best level of football by then. When sectionals come around, we will have played 9 games of football, so by that time we should have enough experience to start putting everything together and be successful in sectionals,” said sophomore Caleb McCuen.

The student body knows the football team is a young team this year, mostly being underclassmen. Due to this, the team has more to learn about the sport. The team knows they’re still learning a lot, but they’re confident with what they have.

“I believe we will be able to figure it out before sectionals. We have a very young team, and we are still learning a lot and learning how to play faster. We have to be more confident with what we have and continue to get better. And if we work at it, it will all come together by sectionals,” said senior Jack Rodgers.

Besides the players, the coaches also believe they can do good in sectionals. If the players focus and play hard and don’t give up good plays, they can play well for sectionals.

“If we can stay healthy and improve on not giving up big plays and executing offensively then I believe we have the capability to make a run in sectionals,” said head coach Austin Foust.

Though the team may hear negativity coming from the student body, the players do not let it stick. They believe they have a chance if they work hard and play their best level of football by working together.

“We don’t know who we will play in sectionals yet, so we have to go into sectionals knowing that we can win no matter who we draw. There are some tough teams in our sectional, but our coaches will prepare us and make sure that we’re ready to play,” said sophomore Caleb McCuen.
