Freshmen Vs. Seniors

By: Camila Ledezma

Going into high school as a freshman can be very stressful for students. Grades are more
important than they were before. Freshmen now have responsibilities, but also more
opportunities.

“We have a lot of possibilities and there are more things open to high schoolers than middle
schoolers,” said freshman Veronica Perdomo.

Freshmen athletes and club members worry about how much experience the upperclassmen
have as an advantage. High school athletes definitely have a lot more going on such as grades,
time management, and their discipline records. Having to worry about skill within a
four-year-range creates challenges.

“I would say a big advantage about having more experience would be your mental attitude is a
lot better and you know what to expect. Also, you can help people that are new to the sport,”
said freshman Coehn Markley.

Experience and responsibility is something that every high school team needs, and freshmen
feel the pressure to meet the older players’ skill set which is a good thing.

“I feel like being on a high school team gives a sense of importance in our school. I guess it’s
just different than middle school; we have more tasks and other things to do that keeps us
busy,” said freshman Emma Shook.

But high school isn’t all stress. Being able to have cell phones during the day is a bit of a relief.
Many CCMHS freshmen are busy, so being able to use phones is an advantage.

“The fact I can finally be on my phone makes things a little bit easier in classes. It makes life a
decent bit easier if you need something specific like a formula or a periodic table for chemistry
you could find it quickly on your phone,” said freshman Clifton Ashley.
