A Complicated Season

By: Quaid Primm, NaKalvin Morningstar, and Willow Harrington

This year the CCHS cross country team is the biggest that it has been in several years. Last year as a freshman, Aleks Stacy was the only high school runner. The team, coached by Mrs. Stacy now has juniors Rose Peterson and Destin Green, along with freshman Quaid Primm. However, more runners hasn’t kept the team free of difficulties which included injuries.

“Yeah I’ve basically expected what we’ve done so far, I didn’t expect people to get hurt though,” said junior Rose Peterson. “The beginning of the season during practice, Destin Green hurt his foot by falling into a hole while running and Aleks Stacy had tendinitis. “I expected no stupid injuries, but apparently I got one,” said sophomore  Aleks Stacy. Overall the team has really preserved, and pulled off some great accomplishments.

Though they had many setbacks, the team has done good things. “I got my first ribbon in North Judson and it felt really good,” said  sophomore Aleks Stacy. The runners are constantly striving to get better everyday, and it shows when they compete.

“I feel like we could have improved times for all runners on the team,” said junior Destin Green. “All the runners have improved this year on their times, and are looking to improve more to reach the regional qualification times.”

Overall the team feels positive despite setbacks. They have trained very hard to reach their personal and team goals while still having fun. “At the beginning of the season my goal was to run under 25-26 minutes but in my first meet I ran 23:37, so right now, I’m trying to get under 23,” said Rose Peterson “It’s fun to run with people every week, and meets are also super fun!”

Though the season has been long and has seen many roadblocks, the CCHS cross country team has faced each one head on and pushed through towards a good season, with runners like Aleks Stacy, Quad Primm, Destin Green, and Rose Peterson leading the way, there is no doubt there is more to come during the season.

“I was very excited,” stated Mrs. Stacy, “because my team tripled its size, so I was very optimistic.”
