Preparation for the Bell Game

By: Charley Howard

The Culver Cavaliers and the Argos Dragons have been rivals for decades. From soccer to basketball, the Culver Argos games are always some of the most competitive and exciting games of the season. One of the biggest games in the boys basketball season is the Bell Game in which Culver and Argos compete against each other for the familiar bell.

“This will be the 49th year,” said assistant varsity coach AJ Neace, “the Bell Game has been going on between Culver and Argos.”

Last season, the Cavs played Argos three times including the Bell Game. Unfortunately, Culver didn’t bring the bell home. Even though the game isn’t for awhile, the coaches and several players have begun preparing for the upcoming Bell Game.

“We were an ultra competitive team last year in the Bell Game,” stated head varsity coach Kyle Evans. “It was a one point game with three minutes to go. Unfortunately, we couldn’t pull it out.”

Last year’s Bell Game was a very intense with both cheer blocks going crazy and the boys playing their hearts out. In the last three minutes of the fourth quarter, the score was 31-30. The game ended with Argos beating Culver 42-32. This year, the coaches are putting together a plan to get the boys prepared for the 2022 Bell Game.

However, the seniors on the basketball team are setting goals to lead the team to victory against the Argos Dragons as well.

“I feel very confident for this year’s upcoming Bell Game,” said senior Jalen King.

King says that last year’s Bell Game was very stressful and a learning experience. As one of the seniors on the team, King says he will do everything that needs to be done in order to lead his team to a big win.

Culver hasn’t had the bell for years and so the students of Culver High school, the varsity boys basketball team, and the coaches are all excited for the 2022 Bell Game. The players and coaches are pushing towards their big goal of ringing that bell and bringing it home.

As Coach Neace says, “That bell belongs in a Culver trophy case! No where else!”
