The Til Valhalla Project

November is the month that Americans celebrate veterans. This month Americans celebrate living and deceased veterans who fought for the freedom of America. It also leads a lot of people to look for ways to commemorate a person’s service. Some programs, however, do both like the Til Valhalla project.
According to their website, the Til Valhalla Project is a project that gives out hand made memorial plaques for fallen soldiers and donates towards reducing veterans suicide. There are many programs designed to help veterans, but this stands out.
Til Valhalla is abbreviated from, “until Valhalla.” It is used to say that those who die in combat are gone, but will never be forgotten.
Founder Korey Shaffer, a U.S Marine veteran, started this project because of people asking for plaques for their fallen family members. Korey lost one of his closest friends to suicide after they had returned from Afghanistan. As therapy, Kory decided to start making hand-crafted memorial plaques in honor of his fallen brothers. Shortly after, he started to get requests for plaques to be made and gifted to other families of fallen heros.
Korey decided to invest in equipment which would allow him to be able to keep giving back. Korey started out of pocket at first, but the Til Valhalla Project became official in 2017. The Til Valhalla project wants to show families that someone out there is always thinking of their loved ones and cares to remember their legacy.
“A hero never dies until their name is spoken for the last time,” as Korey has always said.
Starting in 2019, the Til Valhalla Project donated an additional 20% of net proceeds towards reducing veteran suicide. Since then, they have donated over $2,000,000, 1,500+ plaques, and saved 200+ veterans from suicide.
The Til Valhalla Project is a great project that helps our fallen heroes and suicidal veterans get the help and recognition they deserve.
