When is it Too Early for Christmas Trees?

By: Faith Bartram

This holiday season, a lot of businesses had been spotted putting their Christmas trees up as early as the beginning of October. In Knox, the Knox Family Medical Center has had their tree up in their lobby since October, but it started by being decorated for Halloween.

“Personally, my family and I set up our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving, so I feel like the weekend after Thanksgiving is an appropriate time to set one up. It doesn’t bother me if other people set up their’s earlier, unless they’re playing Christmas music. That’s bothersome,” said Mr. Stevens the CCHS Spanish teacher.

A lot of students at CCHS agree with Mr Stevens, as several of them dislike the idea of Christmas in November.

“I do have some people in my family that set up their Christmas trees in October or November, but I don’t agree with it. I would rather them set it up a week before Christmas,” said freshman “Alyx” Katherine Sparhawk.

Regarding that information, it seems as though a lot of students think October or November is way too early to set up Christmas decorations, especially their Christmas trees.

“Before or right after Halloween is way too early, even if I was told I had to set up one during that time, I would not,” said junior Arwen Kornblith.

“I think it’s too early if it’s before Thanksgiving,” said junior Willow Harrington.

But there are people who feel putting up a tree earlier is tradition.

“My family usually sets our Christmas tree up around mid November,” said senior Kennedy Jackson.

“I think it’s appropriate whenever you feel like it. I always decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving.  I have wonderful Christmas memories, decorating brings back those memories for me.  Plus, I feel like the world just seems more peaceful during Christmas, and so I love the feeling Christmas gives all of us,” said CCHS’s school counselor Missy Trent.
