Cooking with Kaity and Chloee: Dark Chocolate Truffles

By: Kaity Stacy and Chloee Danti

Christmas time drives up consumerism because of presents and preparing meals. Many meals take a long time and sometimes even Christmas desserts are difficult to whip up. Kaity and Chloee wanted to offer a new sweet treat that is easy to make so people who celebrate can spend more time with their family. Chocolate truffles are an easy treat to make, and even easy on the budget.

With ambitious spirit and Christmas cheer, Kaity and Chloee attempted to create three types of chocolate truffles with different toppings. They decided to use the toppings of crushed walnuts, cocoa powder, shredded coconut, chocolate sprinkles, and crushed candy canes covering dark, milk, and white chocolate truffles.

At this point, one may wonder why the title is called dark chocolate truffles if three kinds were made. Well, only the dark truffles turned out for the cooks. The recipe stated to use eight ounces of chocolate, but Kaity and Chloee would like to advise that you use dark chocolate in your recipe because that was the only type of chocolate that worked.

Of course, they had to check on the public’s opinion of their chocolate treats. They were able to get the expert opinion of one student in the culinary vocational. Junior Avery Keller is not a fan of dark chocolate but, nevertheless, gave the truffles a 9/10. She would want you to know that these truffles are rich in sweetness.

Another taste tester agreed that the truffles were very rich as well. Science teacher Mrs. Hammond rated these truffles a 10/10. She even said she could eat them everyday, but only once a day everyday.

Freshman Hayden Lute, is an avid chocolate lover and rated these truffles a

9/10. Hayden loves chocolate and wants to include these truffles with her choice of chocolate treats. These ratings only show the love for these truffles, but some were unimpressed.

Sophomore Robert Evans did not enjoy the truffles as much as he thought

he might. He has said he has had better and decided that the truffles were good enough for a 7/10. He had a similar feeling to senior Shane Shuman who rated these truffles a 8/10 and had no comment to add except that they were good.

It seems that these truffles may or may not be enjoyed depending on the taste buds that try them. It is worth a try to find out if these simple and easy truffles are up your alley. If you decide they are not your style, then it seems that Mrs. Hammond will take them off your hands. Check out the recipe below, comment candy cane on the Caval Crier’s next post to be a taste tester, and have a Merry Christmas.
