For Alex

On August 9, 2020, tragedy struck Culver Community and the Class of 2023 with the passing of classmate Alex Pare. A bright and witty student with a fiery passion for basketball, Alex was loved throughout the community and his passing brought devastation.

For the Class of 2023, Alex was a friend to many; and although he hasn’t been with his us physically for the last three years, the class ensured that he was with them all along the way.

Keeping Alex’s memory alive began in the year of 2020 when the basketball and soccer teams dedicated their seasons to him and placing his number “5” on the warmup jerseys and team shirts. And the momentum kept going as the class moved to their junior and senior years.

In August, when seniors began painting their parking spots, the participating seniors included a spot for him which was painted by Marissa Milam in his honor.

And as the seniors stove to make Sports Spectacular history with a three-peat win, the seniors placed his number in their theme, and many remembered him that night through pictures.

The number 5 holds a heavy weight on all our hearts, but the good memories with Alex was what drove the class to keep his memory alive.

“For me, Alex was the epitome of what a student athlete should be. He was the first one in the gym for basketball and always the last to leave. Despite that, he still found time to study hard and do really well in school. Alex’s work ethic was something that always amazed me and it pushed me to try my best to replicate it,” said senior Ashton Macedonio.

“Growing up at the church and eventually going to school with Alex, I never met anyone able to light up a room as easily as Alex with his smile and his dad jokes that only caused himself to laugh. His love of basketball was unlike anyone I’ve met, with him being seen at the basketball courts at the park anytime on a Saturday. His intelligence was unmatched with him being able to teach me Geometry when I had trouble throughout the year,” said senior Shane Shuman.
