Cavalier Injuries

By: Robert Evans

Sports are a vital part of the Cavalier experience, they promote teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness among the students. However, along with the many benefits, there also comes a significant concern of injuries. A student’s injury could  hold them back even after being fully healed. Injuries have an effect on a player’s daily athletic life. Being injured not only affects the student but also their team.  An injury can have a negative effect on the morale, sportsmanship, and teamwork of a team.

When losing a teammate due to an injury, it can have devastating effects on the team. The team will have to replace the injured player, and that can disrupt how the team works together.

“I think it affects the team by losing a voice. I feel like I’m a loud voice for our team,” said freshman football guard Drake Zorich.

Getting injured will not only affect a player’s athletic ability, but also their daily life. It can make everyday activities painfully intolerable. Which is why it is imperative to take the time needed to heal properly.

“My daily life changed quite a bit the first couple days, it really hurt to walk but over the weekend, I took care of my leg so it’s starting to heal but it definitely still hurts sometimes,” said senior Avery Keller.

Injuries can not only keep a player out of a sport, but it can affect them after being healed also. Having an injury can hold them back. It can put a fear in their mind of being injured again, and it can set them back from being the same strength and ability before the injury.

“The injury has definitely put a pause on many things in my life, including the rest of my football season, baseball, and my life outside of school. Sports are a worry because this injury is needing surgery, and I don’t know how it will affect my performance,” said freshman Shawn Green.

This season, the majority of teams have had players sitting out with many athletes being injured. The teams have been set back in many ways from the loss of a player. The teams numbers have been lowered greatly with some players not being able to step back on the field or court for the rest of the season.
