SRO’s in the Building
By: Troy Fa’Atuai-McCuen According to Madison Gerdes article, “Policing in Schools” Student Resource Officers (SRO’s) are in around 42% of public schools and 10.9% are sworn in law officers. The SRO’s that are in schools across the country are there to help protect students from harm and to maintain order, safety, and security. But not anyone can just become an SRO. “SRO’s are carefully selected individuals,” said Culver Community Resource Officer Ryleigh Carr. An SRO goes through 4 years of special training. New Phone Law Enforcement
By: Hazel Tomblin The state of Indiana created a new state law that forbids students from using wireless communication devices during instructional time. Instructional time is a time in which students are participating in an approved course, a curriculum, or an educationally related activity under the direction of a teacher. The state of Indiana created this law because there were major problems state-wide in schools of phone usage during class. Homecoming Court 2024
By: Bre Hamilton Homecoming court at Culver Community is something for each grade. Each year, 2 boys and 2 girls from grades 9 through 11 and 3 boys and 3 girls from the senior class get voted anonymously by their classmates to represent their grade. However, only the senior class gets an opportunity to be crowned homecoming queen or king. On the first day back to school in 2024, Culver Community High/ Middle school found itself under a bomb threat. This threat required all students be evacuated. When all students were sent to the elementary school, the majority of the staff were given jobs and helped organize the chaos. One of these chaotic jobs was held by the director of the cafeteria Mrs.Gretchen Johnson.
